American Dental Board of Anesthesiology
The American Dental Board of Anesthesiology represents the most highly trained and experienced anesthesia-provider dentists in the profession.
The American Dental Board of Anesthesiology was founded to ensure that all dentists who have completed approved dental anesthesiology residency programs have attained, and will maintain, the highest possible level of knowledge and skill in the spectrum of anesthesiology care for dentistry. Comprehensive written and oral examinations must be successfully completed for the dentist anesthesiologist to be designated a Diplomate.
To be considered eligible for Diplomate examination, all applicants are required to have completed thirty-six months or more of formal residency training in anesthesiology for dentistry accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation or a provincial or national accrediting body deemed equivalent by the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology.
In addition, all Diplomates of the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology must meet specific re-certification criteria every six years in order to maintain their status.
Diplomates of the ADBA have demonstrated expertise in providing safe and cost-effective conscious sedation, deep sedation and general anesthesia for patients of all ages and medical complexity and for all types of dental, oral, maxillofacial and adjunctive surgical procedures, in both office-based and hospital or ambulatory surgery center operating room settings. In addition, the Diplomate is an expert in the management of acute orofacial pain and, when so trained, in the diagnosis and management of chronic orofacial pain.
